There’s no doubt the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is a fast car, especially after it just set lap records at two tracks. Considering the Germans like to engineer their vehicles for hard driving on tracks, pushing to eek every bit of performance possible out of them, it’s understandable why Porsche is so pleased.

The wrong oil filter kills a project car.

The Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach Package set a new lap record for series-production electric cars at Road Atlanta in the state of Georgia, recently. With Patrick Long, a professional racecar driver and brand ambassador for Porsche Cars North America, behind the wheel, the EV ran a 1:27.1 minutes lap around the famous circuit.

A Porsche Taycan Turbo S set the previous record of 1:33.8 back in 2020, so this effort was over six seconds faster.

Long was impressed with the Taycan Turbo GT’s performance: “I expected precise steering, but I didn't realize how perfectly the Porsche Active Ride system would compensate for the car’s body motion,” he said after setting the new lap record.

The second lap record, also don with a Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package, was done at Yas Marina Circuit in the United Arab Emirates. GT racecar driver and race school instructor Ramez Azzam got around the famous Formula One circuit in a mere 2:07.2 minutes.

That time was good enough to set a new series-production electric car lap record. Even more impressive, it was a mere 1.1 seconds away from the touring car lap record.

Azzam also praised the Taycan Turbo GT’s handling dynamics, saying it made all the difference in setting the new lap record. As he so aptly points out, EVs are known for good straight-line acceleration, but they’re not always so great at carving through turns, which slows them down on circuits like Yas Marina.

As the most powerful production Porsche ever made, the Taycan Turbo GT has racked up records at Laguna Seca, Interlagos F1 Circuit, Shanghai International Circuit, and the Nurburgring.
