TOYOTA UNVEILS ULTRA-RARE LAND CRUISER RALLY RAID EDITION—ONLY 12 BUILT

Toyota is honoring its rally racing pedigree with one of its most exclusive SUVs yet. The Land Cruiser GR Sport Rally Raid, revealed in Japan, celebrates Team Land Cruiser’s (TLC) incredible 12th straight victory in the Dakar Rally’s production vehicle class.

Only 12 of these rugged machines will be built, along with 12 conversion kits for existing Land Cruiser GR Sport owners. Exclusivity is baked in from the start.

Unlike typical “special editions” that rely on stickers and badges, the Rally Raid gets serious mechanical upgrades. Toyota Auto Body fitted the SUV with new suspension and cab mounts, enhancing its off-road muscle. The Rally Raid also rolls on 18-inch Enkei PDT1 alloy wheels shod with Toyo Open Country all-terrain tires, while red brake calipers, heavy-duty tow hooks, mud flaps, and TLC decals complete the aggressive package.

Inside, the upgrades continue with premium leather and ultra suede upholstery, specially designed seats, and a unique Rally Raid plaque on the center console.

Power comes from the same twin-turbo 3.3-liter V6 diesel found in the standard GR Sport, delivering 304 hp (227 kW / 309 PS) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. A 10-speed automatic gearbox and electronic front and rear differentials keep all four wheels in check.

Pricing starts at 9.38 million yen (around $63,500) for the Rally Raid edition, while the full accessory package costs 1.51 million yen (roughly $10,200). For comparison, a base Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport in Japan goes for 8.14 million yen ($55,100).

Because of its exclusivity, buyers will need luck as much as money. Toyota dealerships are running a lottery for applications between September 11 and 28, with winners notified after October 17. First deliveries are expected in December.
