TOYOTA JUST DROPPED A NEW PRIUS PRIME NIGHTSHADE—AND IT LOOKS SLICK

Toyota's Prius has reached its 25th anniversary in the U.S. market. As a pioneer of hybrid technology that paved the way for electrification, Toyota reportedly chose not to release a special commemorative model for this milestone. Instead, the company announced a price increase and introduced a new Nightshade Edition to the Prius Prime lineup. This decision reflects Toyota's strategy of leading the electrification trend through gradual evolution rather than dramatic changes.

Slight Price Increase with Core Features Unchanged

The 2026 Prius retains its design and features, with no major exterior updates or new options. All trim levels will experience a price increase of at least 200 USD. The entry-level LE trim is priced at 28,550 USD, while the top-tier Limited trim will cost 35,565 USD. The returning Nightshade trim will also see a modest price increase, starting at 32,800 USD.

All-wheel drive remains an option, with the LE AWD starting at 29,950 USD. These prices do not include a delivery fee of 1,195 USD. The hybrid powertrain combines a 2.0-liter (0.53 gallons) gas engine with an electric motor, producing 194 horsepower in front-wheel-drive models and 196 horsepower in all-wheel-drive variants. The Prius continues to lead its class with a combined fuel economy of 57 mpg (24.2 km/L).

Standard interior features include a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment system, and a 6-speaker audio system. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across all trims, underscoring the Prius's commitment to safety.

Prius Prime Adds Nightshade Edition

The Prius Prime lineup expands with the addition of the Nightshade Edition. Based on the XSE trim, the Nightshade Edition features black emblems, bumper garnishes, 19-inch alloy wheels, black door handles, and a black shark fin antenna. Available color options include Midnight Black, Wind Chill Pearl, and the Nightshade-exclusive Karashi.

The interior features black SofTex seats and a carbon-pattern dashboard, creating an upscale atmosphere. The driver's seat is 8-way power-adjustable for added comfort. The plug-in hybrid system pairs a 2.0-liter gas engine with a 13.6 kWh battery and dual motors, delivering a combined output of 220 horsepower. With a range of 44 miles (71 km) on electric power alone, this model is practical for daily commutes.

Pricing for the Prime starts at 33,775 USD, with the Nightshade Edition commanding 37,795 USD. These 2026 Prius and Prime lineup updates reflect Toyota's strategy to differentiate its hybrid and plug-in hybrid offerings while addressing diverse consumer preferences.
