SAUDI ARABIA’S FIRST EV BRAND, CEER, REVEALS BOLD PROTOTYPE AHEAD OF 2026 LAUNCH

Ceer, Saudi Arabia’s first domestic electric vehicle brand, has unveiled a prototype that offers an early look at the country’s ambitions in the global EV industry, according to Electrek. The company was established in 2022 as a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund and Taiwan-based electronics giant Foxconn under the initiative of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Positioned to become the first Saudi automaker to manufacture EVs locally, Ceer is targeting Saudi Arabia, the broader Middle East, and select international markets while gradually building in-house technological capabilities. At present, it relies on licensed vehicle development technology from BMW and partnerships with global suppliers, including Hyundai Transys for a 3-in-1 electric drive system and Croatian high-performance EV specialist Rimac for advanced electric powertrains.

The prototype, ahead of a planned 2026 production launch, points to a bold design language that blends sharp, angular surfaces reminiscent of the Tesla Cybertruck with a crossover SUV silhouette. The vehicle emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency through a large, near-flat windshield said to integrate infrared-blocking and enhanced noise insulation technologies, while the side glass creates a visual effect similar to butterfly doors. Testing is currently underway at a private European facility, although details on pricing, driving range, and battery capacity remain undisclosed.

Strategically, Ceer is positioned as a key pillar of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, with the Public Investment Fund estimating the project will add around 8 billion USD, approximately 10.67 trillion KRW, to national GDP by 2034 as the kingdom accelerates its shift away from oil dependence toward high-tech and renewable industries.
