REPORTED EPA LEAK CLAIMS THE RIVIAN R2 WILL HIT 335 MILES ON ONE CHARGE

The Rivian R2 already looks like a hit in the making, particularly after the company announced in March that the production model will hit a key collection of planned range, performance, and pricing benchmarks. As it turns out, the R2 may do even better than that. One of those numbers, an EPA-estimated 330 mile range, could be a number that Rivian has already beaten.

A post on Rivian Forums claims to show the full EPA specifications leak of the R2. In screencaps shared to the forum, the apparent EPA results show a final range of 335 miles on 21-inch wheels, a number that (narrowly) beats out the 330-mile range announced last month. The claimed 314-mile performance for a car tested with 20-inch wheels seems healthy, too.

Other numbers of note in the filing include a curb weight just barely under 5000 pounds, an as-tested weight of 5250 lbs, and a recorded battery capacity of 86.8 kWh. Those numbers should all prove competitive within the R2's segment, placing the SUV-like mini-Rivian squarely in line to take the fight to the Tesla Model Ys and Hyundai Ioniq 5s of the world.

Performance-variant R2s will be delivered this spring, bringing well over 600 horsepower to early buyers of the higher-end model. Other cars will continue rolling out through the end of 2026 and into 2027, meaning that the most affordable R2 standard is still months away. The most affordable model, a variant expected to have 275 miles of range and start at $45,000, should land late next year.
